Oscar Corcoles was born and raised in Santa Cruz and has been involved in his community since his teenage years. Growing up, he discovered a passion for soccer, and the sport helped him cope with the inequities he faced. Those experiences helped fuel his determination to pursue an education that would equip him with the tools to give back to his community. In 2008, Oscar got involved with Live Oak Futsal, both as a player and a coach, and helped coach kids’ teams and a summer soccer program. He earned a BA in Sociology from UC Merced in 2017 and went on to obtain a master’s degree in education from San Francisco State University in 2020.  

With the help of his community peers, Oscar created Fuerza Santa Cruz in 2020, a grassroots collective with the goal of fostering change-makers in the community. The organization engages community youth and creates safe spaces to play soccer, provides mentorship, and organizes mutual aid efforts in their own communities.
